controls for the worksheet or the 1-2-3 work session:
RECALCULATION
lets you specify when and how worksheet values
will be recomputed.
HOT TIP:
Usually recalculation is set to occur automatically, but manual
recalculation helps speed up data entry on large worksheets by
postponing recalculation until you press the F9 key.

The blank row was deleted.
In the exercise you just performed you inserted and deleted only one
row or column. The cell pointer indicated where a single column
was to be inserted, and where a single row was to be deleted.
Very often, however, you will be required to specify a group of cells
that will be affected by the command, as in the case of inserting or
deleting multiple columns or rows.
These groups of cells are called

To use a range, you must specify its location on the worksheet.

The cell pointer is now
anchored by 1-2-3
in the current cell (A1).
When you move the pointer with the cursor keys, all the cells between
the anchor cell and the new pointer position will be highlighted.
The highlighted cells specify the range.

C1..C5 was erased. You have specified a range by
Typing
and
Pointing.
Another method uses a
Range Name.
Specifying a Range Name is a good method to use when:
(1) The group of cells must be manipulated frequently
(2) The range is remote from the immediate work area, making it
inconvenient to type cell addresses or to expand the pointer.
To SPECIFY a Range Name you must first CREATE the Range Name.
You CREATE a Range Name with the /Range Name Create command sequence.

STEPS IN CREATING A RANGE NAME:
1.
Select /Range Name Create command
2. Enter the name you wish to use
3. Identify the cells to be named
1-2-3 lets you create Range Names at any time, and you can have an
unlimited number of them. On a worksheet like this one, you might
create names such as Sales, Expenses, Taxes, and Profit for the
corresponding ranges of cells.
In this exercise, you will create a name for the range B4..G4.

Range names can have up to 14 letters including spaces, but it's a
good idea to use simple, easy-to-remember names for your ranges.

Two Main Menu commands used frequently in editing the worksheet are /Copy
and /Move.
/Copy is used to duplicate the contents of one cell or group of
cells into other cells in the worksheet.
/Move is used to move the contents of one cell or group of cells
from the present cell location to a new location.

/Copy and /Move are very similar to /Range operations except that TWO
ranges must be specified for each commmand.
The steps for this are:
1.
Select /Copy or /Move command
2. Specify range to copy or move FROM
3. Specify range to copy or move TO
In the example above, you will move the data in column G to column C.

In many situations, you may not want to have all the formulas change as
they move to new cell addresses. Using
$
signs ensures that the cell
address doesn't change. This is called
Absolute Cell Addressing.
For example, a new formula
(+B5/$G$5)
has been entered into cell B6
which computes the percent of total profit for Natural Gas.
A similar formula will be used in cells C6 through F6. When B6 is copied,
the numerator of the formula (B5) will be changed to C5, then to D5, and
so on, but the denominator (G5=TOTAL PROFIT) will remain the same.

Using the - key you should inspect the formulas now contained in cells
C6 through F6 to verify that the numerators of these new formulas have
been written relative to the cell locations -- while the denominators
remain absolutely the same.
NOTE:
Two $'s are used in the formula +B5/$G$5 so that both the "G" and
the "5" would remain absolute. When only one part of the cell
address is absolute, you only need a $ in front of that part.

The /Worksheet, /Range, /Copy and /Move commands are your main worksheet
editing tools. Becoming proficient with these tools can save you valuable
time in setting up, editing, and reorganizing your worksheets.
In this section you learned how to:
Specify formats for the entire worksheet and for selected cells
Specify label alignments for all cells and for selected ranges
Change column widths
Insert and delete rows and columns
Specify ranges in three different ways
Erase, move and copy ranges of cells
Use relative and absolute cell addressing
